A balanced diet rich in nutrients can have a profound impact on fertility. If you are planning for IVF, you must start consuming a lot of seasonal fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains and healthy fats.

Antioxidant-rich foods, such as berries, spinach, and nuts, can help protect reproductive cells from damage caused by oxidative stress. Limiting processed foods, sugary snacks, and excessive caffeine intake is equally important.

However, avoid excessive and intense workouts, as they might have counterproductive effects on fertility,” suggests Dr Bhatnagar.

The IVF process can be emotionally taxing and it can take a toll on your mental health. High stress levels can adversely affect hormonal balance and interfere with reproductive function. Dr Bhatnagar suggests incorporating stress-reducing practices such as meditation, deep breathing, mindfulness, and hobbies you enjoy. Seek support from friends, family, or a mental health professional if needed.

Adequate Sleep

Quality sleep is vital for overall health and hormonal regulation. You must take at least 7-9 hours of sound sleep everyday. Create a calming bedtime routine, avoid electronic devices before sleep, and maintain a consistent sleep schedule.

Both partners should avoid smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, and recreational drug use, suggests Dr Bhatnagar. These substances can impair fertility and may negatively impact the success of IVF. They can also affect the developing foetus if pregnancy is achieved.

Explore mind-body practices such as acupuncture and fertility massage. Some studies suggest that these therapies can enhance blood flow to the reproductive organs, reduce stress, and promote relaxation- factors that can contribute to improved IVF outcomes.
