Heart HealthBy Onlymyhealth editorial teamSep 29, 2019

More and more women are becoming prone to heart diseases these days. The need of the hour is to understand the symptoms, consult a doctor and take necessary treatment in time to control cardiovascular diseases. Usually, heart diseases are detected late in women, and every year, one in every three women patients suffering from heart diseases succumbs to death. More women die of heart disease than compared to cancers occurring in women. Unfortunately, the level of awareness about heart disease in women is very low compared to cancer. Therefore, women are neither diagnosed nor treated faster. Some heart disease risk factors are unique to women, which include postmenopausal status, hysterectomy, use of birth control pills and pregnancy complications. The symptoms of a heart attack in women differ from men. However, the most common symptom of a heart attack is chest pain or discomfort.

On this World Heart Day, we urge every woman to keep a check on their heart health, says Dr Aparna Jaiswal, Associate Director, Cardiology and Electrophysiology, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute.
