Other DiseasesBy Onlymyhealth editorial teamJun 14, 2021

Black Fungus or Mucormycosis is on rise among Covid-19 patients, but it is not an old disease. If the symptoms are recognised on time, it is easily treatable.

A common mould which is present all around us is responsible for the infection. This mould gets inside our body through breath and attacks sinus and lungs. It also impacts eyes and brain. If your skin is cut, burnt or injured, Black Fungus can develop even on your skin.

Black Fungus is not contagious like Covid-19 and treatment according to its type is available.

Who Is At Risk Of Getting Black Fungus

People who have good immunity are at less risk of getting Black Fungus. On the other hand, people who have health problems or who are taking medication that suppresses their immunity, have diabetes or cancer that is not under control, are more at risk.

People who have been in ICU and given immunosuppressant steroids, or got organ transplant done in the recent past are also at risk.

Doctors are saying that because of steroids these infections are on rise in Covid patients because they reduce body's immunity and increases blood sugar level.
