Recently, the country has seen an increase in the number of heart-related ailments. While the modern system of medicine has provided us with some effective treatment options to deal with them, Ayurveda and homoeopathy are worth knowing. To know more about it, we spoke with two leading experts.

Rise in Heart Ailments

Vaibhav Jain, Co-Founder - Aayush Bharat stated that unhealthy lifestyle habits, such as sedentary behaviour, poor diet, excessive stress, substance abuse, smoking, and alcohol consumption, have contributed to a rise in obesity, hypertension, and diabetes – all of which escalate the risk of cardiac issues.

He added that genetic factors and certain medical conditions may further predispose young individuals to cardiac events. Even those who have recovered from Covid-19 are not exempt from this heightened risk.

Prevalence of Cardiovascular Diseases in India

Cardiovascular-Diseases

Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) contain a range of heart and blood vessel disorders, including conditions like coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral arterial disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2016, an estimated 17.9 million individuals died of CVDs, accounting for 31% of all global fatalities. Among these, 85% resulted from heart attacks and strokes.

In the same year, India reported that 63% of total Non-Communicable Disease (NCD)-related deaths were attributed to CVDs, constituting 27% of the total. Furthermore, CVD contributes to 45% of fatalities in the age group of 40-69 years.

How Does Ayurveda Help Avoid Heart Ailments?

According to Jain, the integration of Ayurveda and homoeopathy stands as a beacon of hope. "These practices seamlessly blend centuries-old wisdom with modern medical insights, addressing symptoms and unearthing the root causes of heart problems," he added.

Jain said that circadian rhythm or the Dinacharya principle of Ayurveda can help people get back on track while staying vigilant about health and connecting with Ayurveda vaidya or homeopath in case of any symptom is very important.

Ayurveda mentions various body types and also the kind of diseases that each body type is prone to. Jain said that if one is aware of his prakriti and also about the diet and lifestyle along with proper consultation and the right treatment can be helpful.

"The shift towards integrative medicine, as highlighted in the 2021 issue of 'Medicina', the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences scientific journal, underscores its necessity," stated Jain. He added that The WHO's pursuit of standards for Traditional Integrative Complementary Medicine (TCIM), encompassing Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and more, further cements the significance of holistic care.

"The studies at the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have unveiled the potential benefits of simple, cost-effective yoga in heart failure, rhythm disorders, and post-heart attack recovery," stated Jain. "This progressive approach of combining traditional practices with contemporary scientific findings points towards a comprehensive strategy for cardiac prevention and integrative care, focusing on the 'whole person' to achieve optimal health and healing," he highlighted.

How Does Homoeopathy Help Avoid Heart Ailments?

Karan Bhargava, Director - Bhargava Phytolab and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) - Homoeo Amigo said that homoeopathy stands out by considering the entire body as an integrated system.

"Its remedies are selected after assessing the individual's physical, mental, and emotional makeup. This comprehensive approach ensures the treatment addresses the root causes rather than merely alleviating symptoms," he added.

Conclusion

The experts concluded that both systems share a preventive ethos. They encourage adopting a healthy lifestyle, incorporating balanced diets, and embracing regular exercise. Importantly, these alternative medicines offer therapies that need not wait for diseases to advance. Instead, they provide avenues to tackle health concerns as soon as they arise, promoting proactive wellness.
