While it's impossible to eliminate pores (and you wouldn't want to, as they play a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin), you can minimise their appearance using simple and natural remedies right at home.

Pores are tiny openings on your skin's surface, and they house hair follicles and sebaceous glands, which produce oil to keep your skin hydrated. Open pores occur when these openings become dilated, usually due to excess oil production, dead skin cells, and other debris. Factors like genetics, age, and sun exposure can also contribute to enlarged pores.

The first step in minimising open pores is keeping your face clean. According to a study by Cutis in 2006, the application of a cleanser was found to reduce certain acne symptoms and maintain the clarity of your pores. Use a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser to remove dirt, excess oil, and makeup. Cleanse your face twice a day, in the morning and evening, to prevent buildup that can lead to enlarged pores.

Exfoliation

Exfoliation is one of the essential elements of skincare. It helps get rid of dead skin cells that can block your pores and make them look bigger. and give the impression of increased size. Try a gentle exfoliating scrub or a chemical exfoliant like salicylic acid or glycolic acid. But don't use it too much, as scrubbing too hard can make your skin irritated.

Honey is a natural humectant that can help moisturise and tighten the skin. All you need to do is apply a thin layer of honey to your face. Let it stay on your face for about 15-20 minutes, and then rinse.

You can even use apple cider vinegar on your skin to minimise open pores, however, don't apply it directly. Dilute apple cider vinegar with water (1 part vinegar to 2 parts water) and use it as a toner. Its acidic properties can help balance skin pH and tighten pores.

Consistency is Key

Remember that results from these home remedies may take time, and consistency is essential. Also, it's crucial to follow a good skincare routine that includes sunscreen, as sun damage can exacerbate the appearance of open pores.
