Consult Your Doctor If…

If you have allergy from any medicine or have cancer or got cancer surgery done recently, if you have hemophilia, are undergoing chemotherapy, stem cell therapy or any treatment for immune system, it is best to take your doctor’s advice as they will guide you if you need to get any test done or follow any precaution before your vaccination.

Do’s And Don’ts Before Vaccination

  • A night before getting vaccination, you must take plenty of restful sleep.
  • Before going for the vaccination, you can take your normal food. Try to take nutritious meal and include fresh fruits, vegetables having lots of vitamins and minerals. You can even have non-veg food as there is no restriction regarding that. 
  • Don't overeat. 
  • Don't go for vaccination on an empty stomach
  • Hydrate yourself well. It is important to do that before and after taking vaccination. You can have normal water, or lemonade, or coconut water as it will help maintain your blood pressure too.
  • Don’t skip any medicine before or after vaccination
  • If you are on steroids or thinners, then you can stop them a few days before vaccination. 

Do’s And Don’ts After vaccination

  • Don't be in a hurry to rush back home. A waiting period of half-n-hour is mandatory. This is important to monitor side-effects of vaccination. 
  • You may face certain side-effects post vaccination like fever, bodyache, pain in your arm etc. These are common ones and go away on their own. If body ache and fever is more than you can handle, you can take paracetamol.
  • Even after taking vaccine, you need to follow Covid-appropriate behaviour like wearing masks, social distancing, washing hands etc

Does Consumption of Alcohol Diminishes Effectiveness of Vaccine?

India's health department, America's CDC and Britain's public health department have not released any guideline related to consumption of alcohol. But when we consulted a doctor, he advised that one must not consume alcohol for a couple of days post vaccination or minimize it. Alcohol adversely affects immune system.

What About Smoking After Vaccination?

No specific studies to the effect but doctors advise against smoking considering its ill-effects. According to experts, people should not smoke for 24-72 hours of vaccination.
