Two years ago, COVID-19 outbreak happened that took the world by storm. Within months, it was declared a pandemic by the WHO. After vaccination, coronavirus scare has eased wherein people get infected but don't develop severe symptoms. However, now we have Monkeypox which is spreading gradually. This is not life-threatening as covid but its transmission rate is high. Can monkeypox be the next pandemic?
India is seeing a rise in the cases of monkeypox. Experts are advising people to be watchful towards the symptoms of monkeypox and take immediate action if they experience any. The World Health Organization has declared monkeypox a public health emergency which was earlier applicable to only polio and coronavirus. However, the situation is not that bad as compared to covid. The first case of monkeypox was detected in 1970 and so, it is not a new virus like covid. Scientists are aware of this virus and so, they can suggest best measures for prevention and treatment of monkeypox. It is believed that monkeypox might become a pandemic owing to its high transmission rate however, it can be controlled and it won’t be fatal like coronavirus.
