Today, fitness is associated with a tiny waist achieved by months of starvation or kilos of sweat in the gym. A healthy weight, however, is not defined by your waist size but by the appropriate body weight in proportion to your height. A healthy weight is not what you see on the silver screen or how much you used to weigh. Your body gives you signs that tell you that you are at your healthy and happy weight.

Do not aim at achieving the perfect body but strive for a healthy body along with a healthy mind. Here are some of the most important signs that indicate that you are healthy:

No weight-related health issues

Excess weight is the culprit of health-related issues and it needs to be taken care of. It is crucial to know that a waist-size smaller than 35 inches in women and 40 inches among men is considered ideal and healthy. Apart from knowing this number, you should keep a track of your cholesterol levels, blood sugar levels and blood pressure. If your number tells you that you are not at risk of developing any weight-related health problems, then you are at a healthy weight regardless of how much you weigh.

Your ideal weight is only a few pounds away

It might happen that while looking at the weighing scale, you might not see the number you wished for but you feel that you have lost weight. It happens because losing fat can actually help you gain muscle mass, which weighs more than fat. Well, it is believed that weight loss should be about minimizing muscle loss and not just reducing overall body weight. This gives your body enough strength to carry out your daily mundane activities and maintain a good metabolism.

Consider your resting heart health

Maintaining a healthy weight is not limited to decreasing your weight, it is more than that. It is about keeping your overall health in check, including your resting heart rate. A resting heart rate is the number of heart beats per minute while resting, a healthy heart rate ranges from 60-100 heartbeats per minute. If your heartbeat is in between the healthy range, then you need not worry about losing more weight. In case, your heartbeat is not stable then you could try some lifestyle changes that can help them bring back to a healthy heart.

You feel energetic all day long

You feel healthy and energetic when you are at your healthy weight, you do not feel the need to consume multiple cups of coffee and are never drained out. People who are at a healthy weight are less likely to feel low during the day. Excess weight can put stress on your bones and if you have lost too much, you will probably experience daytime sleepiness.

Your body fat is in control

A person who seems to be at their healthy weight could have a higher percentage of body fat and same could be true for a person who does not look so lean but have a low body-fat percentage. A healthy body-fat percentage can actually help you determine if you need to lose weight or not. If it is in control, then you are good to go and if not then hop n that treadmill and achieve the goal.

Remember the goal is to be fit and healthy, not thin and weak. There is a bigger picture to your weight—keep in mind your overall health, physical as well as mental.
